We have a question about the rules regarding the duration of stay in the U.S. on a B2 tourist visa.
We arrived in the U.S. on September 3rd to visit our daughter and granddaughter and plan to stay until February 25th. Recently, we learned that our daughter is pregnant, with a due date of July 6th. We are planning to return to the U.S. around that time to assist her and stay for approximately five and a half months.
We understand that the maximum stay on a B2 visa is typically 180 days per entry. However, weâre unsure if there is a limit on the total number of days we can stay in the U.S. within a year, regardless of how many times we enter.
Our specific questions are:
1. Is the maximum allowable stay on a B2 visa 180 days per entry, or is it capped at 180 days total within a 12-month period?
2. For example, since we will have stayed for about two months in early 2025, would we be able to stay for a full 180 days during our next visit in July, or only for the remaining four months of the year?
We want to make sure we follow the rules while planning our trips and supporting our daughter and her newborn.
Thank you for your advice!
